The Poland Crystal Growth Award for Pre-University Students is organized annually by the Institute of Physics at the University of Silesia, under the auspices of the Polish Society for Crystal Growth.
The origin of the Award dates back to 2014, the International Year of Crystallography. One of the initiatives of the Year was to establish a global network of schools participating in national competitions and in crystal growth experiments. The aim of the initiative was to provide students with basic information on crystal growth and to introduce them to the exciting world of growing crystals. The first competitions were so successful and popular that they are now organized annually, both in Poland and in many countries of the world. They are open to all junior high school and high school students. Entrants must grow high quality crystals (preferably a single crystal) of any element or compound (unless classified as hazardous) using any freely chosen method. Once grown, the crystals should be sent to the Award Jury before the application deadline, complete with growth documentation.
